European Union Projects in Croatia

European Union Aid Programmes have been eligible for the region since 1991. Considering needs of states in the region at the time, aid was mainly focused on crisis management and recostruction. From 1991 to 1995 the European Union donated 243, 2 million euro of humanitarian aid to Croatia. In the following period support was given to democratisation, independence of the media and to removal of mines.

In 2000 the EU initiated CARDS programme as a part of Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP).

CARDS represents a long-term approach where throughout one programme the needs of five countries in the region are satisfied.

Besides CARDS, the EU also offers financial aid to Crotia through pre-accession funds: PHARE, ISPA, SAPARD and IPA (from 2007), and Community programmes.
