Directorate for the European Union and International Cooperation is an administrative organisation of the Ministry that performs administrative and professional activities tasks related to criteria for membership in the EU in the field of judiciary, participates in implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, implements the Strategy of the judicial reform and other strategic documents related to judicial reform and coordinates activities of all bodies included in the judicial reform, coordinates harmonisation of the national legislation with acquis communautaire and with international provisions in the fields related to the Ministry's scope, develops draft provisions for harmonisation of legislation with international obligations from the Ministry's scope, and in issues from the Ministry's scope provides opinions on draft provisions.
The Directorate coordinates, supervises and participates in creation of provisions from Ministry's jurisdiction in order to ensure they are harmonised with acquis communautaire and enforced on time.
The Directorate prepares, develops, implements, supervises and coordinates the projects financed by the EU programmes and bilateral sources; from international organisations and international financial institutions resources.
It monitors application of international documents on human and minorities rights and develops prescribed reports; develops cooperation with international organisations in implementation of these documents, and implements second instance administrative procedure according to requests for free legal aid approval and implements administrative and professional supervision, as well as the supervision over resources for provided free legal aid.
It performs professional and administrative tasks related to multilateral and bilateral cooperation in judiciary; tasks related to preparation for entering international institutions in judiciary issues.
The Directorate performs tasks related to international legal aid in criminal and citizen issues; tasks related to extradition; preparation, development and enforcement of international treaties in international legal aid issues. It also performs other tasks from its scope.
